History

Mr.Ng Huan Tong, the Group Managing Director, was an ornamental fish enthusiast that begin rearing ornamental fishes in his backyard in the 1970s. When the activity grew, he traded in his schoolbooks to purse his interest. He set up a company in 1980 with a oneacre farm to breed and sell fish. By 1986, the company had expanded and developed another five-acre farm with 26 ponds at Sungai Suloh , Johor.

A special interest in the Asian Arowana marked the beginning of a strong aquaculture business. Realizing the potential of this endangered species; Mr Ng cultivated and refined his expertise in the breeding of the Asian Arowana. This eventually led to international recognition in 1994 from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) as the first company in the world to be registered for the commercial captive breeding of Asian Arowanas.

In 1996, Mr Ng developed another 50-acre farm in Parit Sulong, Johor , complete with a hatchery, nursery and a 96 breeding pond complex dedicated to the breeding of the Asian Arowana. This farm is the hub of Xian Leng Holdings ‘export as well as local trading of the Asian Arowana.

Today, Xian Leng Holdings is a worldwide leading breeder and trader of the Asian Arowana. It was listed on the Second Board of the then Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 2001, the first aquaculture company to achieve this success. In 2003, the company transferred its listing status to the Main Board of the KLSE now known as Bursa Malaysia.
